Kasaragod, Jul 28: The police have arrested one more person, a Plus Two student, in connection with sporadic incidents of violence witnessed at Mangad locality near Uduma in Kasaragod district.

Three of the arrested were accused of setting on fire a jeep of a CPI(M) worker at Aramanganam locality on June 2 and attacking a police jeep in the melee, sparking political tension in the district.
Riyaz, along with two of the arrested persons, who were brought under police custody two days ago, was remanded in judicial custody on Monday.
During interrogation, the trio confessed to having attempted to defile a nearby temple in an apparent bid to foment communal frenzy in the locality, a senior police officer from Bekal station said.
The timely deployment of additional police force in the trouble-torn area prevented the incident acquiring a communal dimension.
