Competition between reckless bus drivers claims life of young motorcyclist

Mangaluru, Nov 30: A cruel competition between reckless drivers of two buses claimed the life of a youngster, whose motorbike was skidded off the road in a bid to avoid collision. The incident took place on Saturday evening at near Kulshekhar on the outskirts of the city.

The police identified the deceased as Rakesh Shetty Bola (20), son of Damodar Shetty and Leeta couple from Kulshekhar.

According to the eye witnesses the Rakesh veered off to the extreme left in his bid to escape from two speeding buses that were competing on the road.

In the melee Rakesh lost control over hiss motorbike and fell. He sustained critical head injuries in the accident.

It is said that even though people gathered at the accident scene no one came forward to touch the victim for a few minutes. He was taken to a hospital after the arrival of police. However, he breathed his last in the hospital.

Rakesh was working for a software company in Bengaluru and had visited his hometown a couple of days ago. It is learnt that he had planned to return on Monday. He had served as the working president of All College Student Association in 2012-13.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
