Mangaluru, Mar 29: The high court has directed the Karnataka government to complete the construction of a bridge across Puthila river, tributary of Nethravathi in Dakshina Kananda district by May 31.
The bridge has to be built near Banduru village in Belthangady taluk and the same would reduce the distance to Belthangady to two kms from the 12 kms at present.
A division bench headed by Justice K L Manjunath disposed off a PIL filed by Dinakara Gowda and Geetha, residents of Belthangady taluk while asking the state complete the bridge construction by that time.
The petitioners had alleged that the the bridge work was held back at the instance of local MLA.
According to them, the bridge was sanctioned at a cost of Rs one crore under Suvarna Gramodaya Yojana on June 27, 2013.
