Cong to conduct membership drive in DK on Oct 28

Mangalore, Oct 27: Minister for forests, environment and ecology B Ramanath Rai said that he would participate in the membership enrollment drive of the District Congress committee which would be held in Dakshina Kannada on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference here in Sunday, he said that he would also take the leadership in the membership enrolment campaign of the district committee in Bantwal taluk.

œThe state-wide membership drive is being introduced on a pilot basis in Dakshina Kannada district on October 28. The membership drive will begin at 8 a.m. and end by 6 p.m. All party workers have been requested to be present during the membership drive in their respective booths," he said, adding that the DCC in-charge president Ibrahim Kodichal would monitor the entire process.

Ramanth Rai, who holds the post of DCC president even after taking charge as a minister, said that he would resign from the post of district party chief after laying the foundation stone for a permanent party office.

œWe have identified nine cents of land at Kadri in the city and the land documents have been registered. Very soon, we will prepare a plan for a full-fledged district office building. I will quit party president's position after the foundation stone has been laid for the new party office building,  Rai said.

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
