Bengaluru, Jan 28: The Congress, on Tuesday, hit back at former DGP Shankar Bidari - who is now with the BJP - over his charges that the Congress government was seeking kickbacks to clear files pertaining to mining.
Congress leader V?S?Ugrappa told reporters here that Bidari had been indicted by the Justice Sadashiva Commission over human rights violations which occurred in the Male Mahadeshwara?Hills during the operations by the Special Task Force (STF)?to capture forest brigand Veerappan.
Reading a few lines from the interim report submitted by the Commission on the human rights violations in 1993-94, Ugrappa said that Bidari was personally present when violations were committed by the STF?personnel.
“With such a character, how can Bidari comment on the Congress government seeking kickbacks?” Ugrappa said.
He challenged Bidari to disclose his assets, before speaking against the Congress. When asked why the Congress did not realise Bidari’s character flaws previously, when he had joined their party, Ugrappa and the other Congress leaders present with him did not answer the question.
