Mangaluru, Dec 5: The police have launched a manhunt for an alleged rapist after an unwed woman gave birth to a child at a government hospital in the city.

Following the information given by the hospital a team of police from Vittla police station led by Sub Inspector Prakash Devadiga met the woman and inquired her.
The woman reportedly told the police that she was raped by a man called Praveen Belthangady.
Police sources said that Praveen had taken her to Uppinangady promising her money and gold and then forcefully took her to a lodge and raped her nine months ago.
Later, he gave her Rs 100 and asked to leave home. He also threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone.
Based on her complained the police registered a case of sexual assault began to search for the accused.
