Mangaluru, Feb 18: At least three persons died on spot and two others were injured in a ghastly road mishap at Kallugundi in Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday.
The impact of the head on collision was such that the sand-laden tipper turned turtle and the ill-fated Alto car reduced into a bundle of metals.
The deceased are Lakshmi Narayana (60), his wife Chinnamma and their son Avinash (35), who were travelling in the car. They were residents of Bheemaguliyoor near Panja in Sullia taluk.
The tragedy took place when the car bearing registration number K A 55 M 1267, was plying from Sullia to Panja village.
Two other passengers on board the car have sustained severe injuries. They were admitted to a Sullia government hospital.
The reckless driving on part of the driver of tipper which was transporting sand was said to be the reason for the mishap.
Sullia police rushed to the spot and conducted spot investigation. A case has been registered.
