Mangaluru, Oct 9: The nine-day Navaratri festival and Mangalore Dasara concluded on a vibrant note at Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha Temple in Mangaluru last night.

Thousands of pilgrims and tourists thronged to witness the immersion procession of Ganapathi, Navadurga and Sharada, which is popular in the region as Mangaluru’s own Dasara. 13 idols of Sri Gokarnanatha Kshetra led the procession of cultural troupes, piliveshadaris and cultural tableaux.

However, the organisers missed the presence of founder of the event – B Janardhan Poojary—former Union minister, owing to ill health.

Taking note of the complaint from devotees, and tourists alike, that they missed seeing the grandeur of the Navadurgas – Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri, Siddhidhatri led up front by Lord Ganapathi and Goddess Sharada bringing up the rear – in the procession, the organisers tinkered with the procession order. The idols started leaving the Kshetra at 5.30pm in the above order.

Now into its 28th year, the procession brought to the fore newness, with Padua Friends recreating a slice of Mysuru Dasara with a tableau of ambari and Mysuru palace.

A 60 member Nasik band that had 30 women drummers set the tone for an overnight procession that saw tiger dancers aka ‘piliveshadaris’ from Manjalbail Friends, Kali Charan and Chilimbi Friends showcase their talent on trucks converted into tableaux, as they wound their way through city thoroughfares.

Tableaux organisers used run-of-the mill ideas to innovative with tableaux such as Brazilian dance, slaying of Kumbhakarna, glory of Anarkali and a tableau Team Young Tuluvas, that depicted the glorious heritage of Tulunadu. If the 45-member Kerala chende tableau transported the crowd temporarily to God’s Own Country, another tableau that depicted the culture of the Aghoris, gave one a glimpse of how these ascetic Shaiva sadhus lead their lives.

Barke Friends that fielded four tableaux including that of the Aghoris, had one exclusively for women piliveshadaris. Biruver Kudla recreated the magic of a girl from Kerala, whose dance as young Lord Krishna had captivated the social media, with nearly 20 girls recreating the same on the moving stage. The sight of 75 umbrellas at the head of the procession, with the rest of the tableau moving behind on the tastefully decorated street, made it a night to remember.

The procession that started at the temple proceeded through Mannagudda, Lady Hill Circle, Lalbagh, PVS Circle, Navabharath Circle, K S Rao Road, Hampankatta Road, Ganapathi High School Road, Car Street, Alake and returned to the temple at Kudroli in the early hours. The committee tinkered with the procession order to ensure that the idols of the Navadurgas and Sharada were immersed in the temple pushkarni before dawn the next day.

Bengaluru, May 6: Arrested JD-S MLA H.D. Revanna, the son of former PM H.D. Deve Gowda, on Sunday said that there is no evidence against him in the sex video scandal kidnapping case and that it was a "conspiracy" against him.

Talking to the media, while being taken for a medical test before being produced in front of a court here, Revanna stated that a kidnapping case had been lodged against him though he does not have 'one black mark' against him in his entire career of 40 years.

"Without evidence, I have been targeted... All allegations against me are false. My arrest has been made out of ill intention," he claimed.

"The case was lodged on April 28, then, they did not have any evidence. Later, the fake evidence was created on May 2 and I was fixed," he alleged.

Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwara stated on Sunday that a Blue Corner notice has already been issued against Revanna's son and MP Prajwal Revanna, the prime accused in the sex video scandal, as he is believed to be abroad.

"The Interpol will communicate to all nations and he will be located. Once he is located, the SIT will take a call on how he should be secured and brought back to India," he added.

Revanna was arrested on Saturday on charges of kidnapping one of the victims of the sex video scandal.

Parameshwara further maintained that the arrest of Revanna has saddened JD-S leaders and if action was not taken, the SIT would be blamed too.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge refused to comment on the alleged sex video scandal involving Prajwal Revanna.

About Revanna's arrest, he said that the SIT would initiate action as per the law. "Those indulging in such acts must be taught a lesson and justice should be given to the families of victims. No one can escape the law. No one should use this case politically," he stated.

Bengaluru, Apr 29: HD Revanna, the father of Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna, has accused rivals of creating a conspiracy out of "old videos", a comment that is likely to raise a bigger row over his son's alleged link to the obscene videos.

A woman yesterday filed a police case against Prajwal Revanna and his father over alleged sexual assault. Prajwal Revanna, the Janata Dal (Secular) MP and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has denied the latest allegations and also filed a police complaint over circulation of obscene videos, which he said were morphed.

Prajwal Revanna left for Germany on Saturday morning after voting in the Lok Sabha elections a day earlier.

"I know what kind of conspiracy is going on. I am not someone who'll get scared and run away. They have released something that was 4-5 years old. Expelling him from the party is left to the party high command," HD Revanna said.

When it was pointed out that an FIR has been registered against him too, he said, "There is politics, I don't want to comment. They (Congress) are in government and they will do whatever they want."

"All these things are not just today, the Deve Gowda family in the last 40 years (has been targeted by) Congress. CoD (now CID), Lokayukta probe, we have been facing for the last 40 years... I don't want to react to anything...let them take action in accordance with law," he said, adding that he hasn't spoken to Deve Gowda on the issue.

"Since the special investigation team is looking into the case, I will not react any further," HD Revanna said.

Yesterday, a first information report was filed against the father-son duo on charges of sexual harassment, intimidation and outraging the dignity of a woman.

The survivor alleged both sexually assaulted her, and when Revanna's wife was not home, he touched her inappropriately and used to sexually assault her. The complainant alleged Prajwal Revanna also misbehaved with her daughter over a video call. "My daughter blocked his number after repeated calls," the complainant said.

The latest FIR comes when Prajwal Revanna is already in the middle of a controversy after some objectionable videos went viral on social media allegedly involving him.

Prajwal Revanna is seeking a fresh term in the Lok Sabha from as a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate from Hassan.

Mangaluru, May 3: The Mangaluru City Corporation will resort to water rationing from May 5 as the Thumbe vented dam, which supplies drinking water to the city, is facing a shortage in water storage.

Instead of daily supply, water will be supplied on alternate days, the Executive Engineer (Water Supply) at the corporation said in a release.

The release said that water will be supplied to Mangaluru City North on May 5. There will be no water supply to Mangaluru City North on May 6. Instead water will be supplied to Mangaluru City South on May 6. Likewise the supply on alternate days will continue.

The inflow in the Netravathi has stopped, the release said, requesting people to cooperate with the corporation and not waste water for washing vehicles and other purposes.

An engineer at the corporation said that water level at the dam stood at 4.27 m on Wednesday against the full storage level of 6 m. If water is supplied daily to the entire city (Mangaluru City North and Mangaluru City South) the existing storage will last only for 16 days, the engineer said. Hence the decision to supply water on alternate days has been taken to supply water till May-end.
