Curtains fall on Vishwa Tuluvere Parba-2014

Mangaluru, Dec 14: Thousands of Tulu lovers enthusiastically participated in various events of Vishwa Tuluvere Parba-2014 on Sunday, the third and final day of the global Tulu fest. More than the academic sessions, people seemed to be interested in the other attractions of the festival, including exhibitions, demonstrations, traditional sports and the boating.

The premises of Sahyadri College of Engineering at Adyar brimming with people. People from across the State, as well as the neighbouring Maharashtra and Kerala and those residing abroad participated in the Parba.

The meet resolved to urge the government to drop the controversial Yettinahole river diversion project; allow performance of modified Kambala and get Tulu included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

The six resolutions were submitted to District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai. Other demands of the resolution were on implementing Tulu as third language both in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, dropping projects which are against agriculture in coastal area. It also demanded the government to name the Mangalore International Airport as'Tulunad International Airport' and to issue public notices in Tulu language.

Chief guest of the event, Pejavara seer Vishweshatheertha Swamiji expressed concern about the land of Tulunad along with language and culture. God is in nature.

Hence, dams and power projects should not harm forest and farm land. It is true that people of North Karnataka need drinking water, but not at the cost of disturbing others. Everyone should be convinced before implementing any project.

We should love other languages like Konkani, Beary or Marathi. We can save culture only by saving language,  he said.

Presiding over the function, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade recalled the contribution of Tuluvas towards Kannada.

œIt is the time to save our language and culture by staying united. Attempts are going on to save Tulu culture through fests, sports meets and cinemas. Tulu literature is growing day-by-day. Media should support towards the development of Tulu,  he said.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that people need not worry about the recommendations of Kasturirangan report. They will be implemented on the basis of Central government's report.

The government will take care of public interest. On Kambala, he said that the problem created because of the mistake of State veterinary director. The problem will be solved at the earliest, as D V Sadananda Gowda himself is the Union Law Minister. œIn Centre, six MPs from the region, including one Minister will do their best to serve language and culture,  he assured.

Regarding Kasturirangan report, District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai said that the report applies to six states, but only Kerala has submitted report to the Central government. Kerala has dropped 20 per cent land against the recommendation of the report to consider ecological sensitive zones, but the state has prepared the report by dropping 37 per cent land, he said. Meanwhile, Rai said that there is a need for maintaining harmony between communities in Tulunad.

He hailed the Tuluvas hailing from Mumbai and foreign countries for their love towards language.

Earlier, around 80 artists of Surathkal Buntara Sangha presented'Tulunadda Porlu-Tirl,' a cultural extravaganza, under the direction of Naveen Shetty Alake, prepared by Mohan Koppala.

A set of traditional Tulu house and artistes depicting the lifestyle of Tuluvas enthralled the audience. Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy team also performed programmes on the occasion. Vijaynath Vittal Shetty and others were felicitated.

Youth Service, Sports Minister K Abhaychandra Jain, Health Miniater U T Khader, Akhila Bharatha Tulu Okkuta President Dharmapala U Devadiga, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy President M Janaki Brahmavara were present among others.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru CEN police have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly posting provocative and misleading content on an Instagram page named “mr_a_titude”, targeting the Bajpe police.

Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy C H identified the arrested as Abhishek M, a resident of Katipalla in Mangaluru.

A case has been registered at the Bajpe Police Station under Sections 353(1)(c), 353(2), 56, and 57 read with Section 189 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the post.

According to police, the accused uploaded a photograph of a hotel on the Instagram page and alleged that accused persons in a murder case under the Bajpe police jurisdiction were being given “royal treatment” by the police, including being served beef meals daily from the hotel.

The post further accused the police of supporting criminals, misusing their authority, and betraying public trust. Police said the content was provocative in nature and aimed at inciting public outrage against the police.

Following the post, a case was registered at the Bajpe police station, and further investigation was transferred to the CEN police station.

Police records indicate that the accused has a criminal history, with multiple cases registered against him, including murder, attempt to murder, assault, and robbery at the Surathkal Police Station, and one case at the Kaup Police Station.

The Commissioner said the accused was traced and arrested using technical evidence.

Melkar (Bantwal): The 9th Annual Day celebration of SMR Public School, titled “EXCELLENTIA”, was held on December 15 with great enthusiasm and dignity, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s journey towards academic excellence and holistic development.
