Mangalore, Oct 22: Officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport (MIA) on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday thwarted yet another unique modus operandi to smuggle gold by seizing 224.75grams of gold valued at Rs 6,13,568.
The seized gold was in the form of silver colour paint coated wires concealed in the beading portion around the borders and edges of a black coloured laptop bag carried by a passenger who arrived from Dubai.
The accused passenger, Shafeeq Chakli(25), is a resident of Mogar House, Mogralputhur post in Kasargod district.
Shafeeq arrived at MIA around 7.30am by Jet Airways flight 9W531. Further investigation is under progress, Hemen Gogoi, deputy commissioner of customs (airport) said.
