Mangalore, Apr 15: Officers of Customs at Mangalore International Airport on Monday seized gold weighing 272.900 grams, valued at Rs 8.02 lakh, sources said.
They were concealed in the form of foil strips in the carton box, brought as checked in baggage from the possession of a passenger who arrived from Dubai.
The accused has been identified as Mohammed Jabir Baikkara (23), son of Muhammed Kunhi from Kasargod. He arrived at Mangalore International Airport on Monday morning by Jet Airways flight No.9w 531 from Dubai.
Operations were conducted under the supervision of Hemen Gogoi, Deputy Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore International Airport by a team lead by B.Prabhakara Poojary, Superintendent along with superintendents Sendhiul Murugan, B.A.Kariappa, H.G.Yogesh and Inspectors G.Kumaraswamy, S.Ranjan Bahera, Santosh Kumar and Ankit Kumar and Havaldars Varadaraju and Sowmya Naik.
