Mangaluru, Sept 8: By arresting two youths from Kerala, the crime intelligence bureau of Dakshina Kannada district police has managed crack the murder case of a man whose dead body was found in a stream under the limits of Uppinangady police station recently.

The accused are Aurangazeb, 37, a resident of Ernakulam, and Mohammed Shamnaz, 23, a resident of Palakkad. The two accused have confessed to committing the murder, according to police, who suspect the murder took place in connection with a woman.
The district police had on September 3 recovered a body with injury marks from a stream in Kuppetti village. The victim was later identified as Unnikrishnan, a resident of Arekkipadi in Ernakulam, Kerala. As Unnikrishnan’s nephew suspected it to be a murder, a case under various sections of the IPC, including Section 302 (murder) had been registered.
Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police B R Ravikanthegowda had formed special squads to investigate the case.
A DCIB team, led by inspector Sunil Y Naik, nabbed the two accused from Kasargod on Thursday. Police said of the two, Aurangazed is a history-sheeter and is already facing cases of attempt to murder, dacoity and being in illegal possession of arms in various police stations across Kerala.
Police said both the accused belonged to an infamous gang. The hunt for the other accused is on. An SUV used in the murder has been seized. The SP has announced reward for the team that cracked the case.
