Mangaluru, Aug 29: Demanding the transfer of Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr K G Jagadeesha various dalit groups on Monday staged a protest in front of DC’s office in the city.

Speaking on the occasion CPI(M) state committee general secretary Mavalli Shankar said that the DC insulted dalits by walking out of the SC/ST grievance redressal meeting recently.

Dr Jagadeesha should leave Dakshina Kannada voluntarily or else the state government should transfer him, demanded Shankar.

Claiming the deputy commissioner to be an anti-dalit, he said that the officer did not have the minimum courtesy to listen to the woes of dalits.

When the issue of allocation of DC Manna land to dalits was being discussed, he walked out of the meeting. He should be immediately transferred for his obnoxious behaviour.

The DC had also spoken bluntly on sanctioning DC Manna land to dalits while the landless were demanding their rights. A case should be registered against him as per the Prevention of Atrocities Act, Shankar demanded.

As per the regulations, the DC Manna lands should only be allocated to dalits. However, many rich and influential persons have encroached the DC Manna land in the district. Assurances by Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa have only been eye wash and the provision of DC Manna land remains a dream.

The state government should soon clear the encroachments by influential persons and allocate land to landless dalits, he added.

Earlier to the protest meet, the dalits took out a protest rally from Balmatta to the DC’s office premises.

DSS leaders Laxminarayana Nagwar, Shrinivas Bhandary, Rohitaksha, Devdas, Nirmal Kumar, Raghuvir and Sarojini were present during the protest.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
