Dakshina Kannada police seize 6 cattle, 850kg beef in separate operations

Mangaluru, Aug 9: In two separate operations in different places of Dakshina Kannada district, the police have seized six cattle and around 850 kilograms of beef today.

At Jakribettu village of Bantwal taluk, a team of police in intercepted a vehicle and arrested two persons for transporting beef.

The arrested are Abdul Jabbar, a resident of Thumbe Ramalkatte and Samseer, a resident of Bambila. Abdul Jabbar was driving the vehicle.

The police also seized around 850 kg beef from the vehicle. The police sources said that they seized the meet because the transporters had no valid documents. It is learnt that the beef was being transported to Central Market in Mangaluru for sale.

Meanwhile, the sleuths of District Crime Intelligence Bureau, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a tempo at Sonandoor Adthila near Poonjalkatte in Belthangady taluk and seized it along with six cattle.

The local police had reportedly received a call by a man, who had claimed that the “stolen” are being transported in the tempo.

Ravikanthe Gowda, Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada said that the transporters abandoned the vehicle with the cattle by the roadside and fled in a car that was following them.

DCIB police have identified the suspects as Farooq Sajipa, a resident of Ammemmar; Jainu alias Jainuddin, Arafa and two other residents of Farangipet.

The Poonjalkatte Police have registered a case under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 and Section 66 of the 192(a) IMV Act.

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
