Mangaluru, Feb 11: The history victory of Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi Assembly polls has breathed a new life into the Dakshina Kannada district unit of the anti-corruption party, which was facing existential problem after the victory of Narendra Modi-led BJP in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
The district unit of the AAP had almost been dissolved after its founding members in DK resigned from the primary membership of the party in July 2014 in the aftermath of defeat of their not so unanimously approved candidate MR Vasudeva in the DK constituency.
However, after Delhi magic, the DK unit secretary of AAP, Rohan M Shiri, said that the party would strengthen its presence by increasing its volunteer base and requested all citizens who dream of a corruption-free India to join the party.
“The DK AAP sends a strong message to corporators of Mangaluru City Corporation to either start working towards improving their ward or face an Aam Aadmi in the next election,” he said adding that the party has urged the commissioner to implement court order and have ward committee formed, which is been unduly avoid by using delay tactics.
A press release signed Alex D’souza, Rajendra Kumar, Rohan M Shiri and Dayanada Someshwar stated that the D.K. unit had worked immensely towards the victory of Delhi. “Many members went to Delhi for campaign from DK and stayed there for one to three weeks and campaigned with local and other volunteers from Karnataka…” it said.
The party also intends to bring its defeated Lok Sabha candidate M R Vasudeva back in action. On the other hand, the Delhi poll result has enthused Mr Vasudeva, who had secured only around 1,500 votes — fewer than None Of The Above (NOTA) votes in DK constituency. “If the party can muster at least about 100 workers, I will be back with it and work for it,” he said.
