New Delhi, Sep 21: The Department of Electronics and Information Technology has drafted a National Encryption Policy of late according to which the citizens are expected to maintain a copy of all the messages sent through encrypted messaging services such as WhatsApp, Google Hangouts or Apple's iMessage for 90 days.

On failing to store the messages for the required period of time or on deleting the messages, one may have to face legal action, as per the draft.
If required by the laws of the country, then one may need to produce these messages before the police.
The government has posted the draft on its website seeking feedback from the citizens on the National Encryption Policy.
