Mysuru: Dec 1: Registrar of University of Mysore C?Basavaraju, on Monday, emphasised on a detailed study into the rocket technology adopted during the period of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan.

Tipu Rocket

Speaking at a seminar on ‘Ancient history and science,’ organised by Vidyarthi Vichara Vedike, Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies and departments of study in History and Sociology at Humanities Auditorium, Manasagangotri, Basavaraju said, “Though Hyder and Tipu incorporated rocket technology 250 years ago, we still lack adequate knowledge on it.

The models of same rockets are exhibited at a museum in England. It would be better to study further, into the rockets and pros and cons of the technology at that time”.

Basavaraju was of the opinion that one should rack up his or her brain on understanding the subjects that are relevant till date. Besides, every ancient history should be scientifically analysed before accepting them.

He referred to ‘Bruhat Vimana Shastra,’ a tome in Sanskrit on flying mechanism authored by Bharadwaj.

“To ascertain the facts in the book,?H?S?Mukund, an expert at the Indian Institute of?Science (IISc), had researched the topic in the year 1970, only to dispute the period of existence of the tome that was believed to have been published 500 years ago,” he said.

K S?Rajani, treasurer of?All India unit of Break Through Science Society said, “The contributions of newer generations are totally ignored to portray the accomplishments of our ancestors as a well-versed society. It is being highlighted that plastic surgery and in-vitro fertility existed earlier”.

Prithvidatta Chandrashobhi said historians should undertake a critical analysis of history.

Bengaluru: Patients visiting government hospitals in Karnataka recently were shocked when they noticed that some drugs had labels of Animal Husbandry Veterinary Sciences (AHVS) but the department concerned has said it was only a logo related issue and that the medicines were indeed meant for human use.

The Karnataka State Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (KSMSCL) said there was an error in the 'logogram' design, but the product was of standard quality and 'human use only'.

As the typo led to panic among patients, KSMSCL Managing Director Chidananda Sadashiva Vatare said in a statement that the product permission copies were submitted and confirmed they were permitted to manufacture as per required medical standards and for human use only.

According to sources in KSMSCL, there were seven drugs which had the AHVS label. This included eye and nasal drops.

These drugs were supplied by a private firm with a total value of Rs 62.9 lakh and it reached the government warehouse on January 5, this year.

The drugs were Methyl Prednisolone injection, Carboxymethylcellulose Eye Drops, Oxymetazoline Pediatric (Nasal) Drops, Flurbiprofen Eye Drops IP, Sodium Chloride (Nasal) Drops, Timolol Maleate Drops and Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride (Nasal) Solution IP.

"The analytical test reports from NABL/government approved laboratories and in-house test reports of the products opined as the products referred above are of standard quality. The test reports from the private empanelled laboratories of KSMSCL have reported these products are of standard quality," Vatare said.

The products were supplied to all the warehouses in the state by the supplier by January 5, he said, adding the supplier requested KSMSCL on January 18 to accept the supplied products by masking the typo.

"It is to be noted that no changes were done in the label of the product information provided. Also, the logogram design was correct in one part of the product and only in another part was there a printing error in the logogram design which was masked, where instead of Health department it was typed as AHVS department."

"The supplier was also imposed a fine of one per cent on the purchase order value and all warehouses were instructed to distribute the products only after masking the error. The supplier was also warned not to repeat the mistake," he said.

Mangaluru: Disgruntled BJP leader and former MLA K Raghupathi Bhat, who is contesting the legislative council election as an independent candidate from the South West Graduates constituency, said the BJP has adopted the “godfather culture” of the Congress.

Bhat told reporters here on Saturday, that he has not tried to appease any senior BJP leaders to get a party ticket to contest the MLC poll.

“I am contesting and seeking votes based on my achievements. My contesting may have a negative impact on the BJP. However, I want to go back to the BJP after winning this election,” Bhat said, and refused to answer the actual reason for the denial of a BJP ticket to him.

“I have no idea who played from behind that I was denied a ticket for the MLC poll.

Earlier, the BJP had a culture of selecting candidates for MLA and MLC polls by seeking the opinion of party workers at the booth level, followed by discussions at mandal and district levels.

Now the situation is such that even if one person’s name was sent from the state, the final list will be different. The godfather culture of the Congress has stretched into our party too. Only those who appease leaders get a ticket in the BJP. However, I have not appeased any leader. I believe in the support of party workers, and with this confidence I am contesting the election,” Bhat said.

To a query, Bhat said that he has not contacted by BJP leaders after deciding to contest the MLC poll.

“I have already requested all leaders that I should get the party’s Form B to contest the MLC poll from the South West Graduates constituency. I have told them that I am also contesting as an independent candidate on behalf of the BJP. The ultimate aim of my contesting the election is that senior leaders should know the injustice that honest party workers are facing in the BJP,” he said.
