Deve Gowda hits out at PM Modi over farm loan waiver scheme

Bengaluru, Jan 2: Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda Wednesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking a jibe at the Karnataka government's farm loan waiver scheme and questioned him about demonetisation and the Ram mandir issue.

"I have observed taunting statements of @narendramodion Karnataka's crop loan waiver scheme.

Dear PM, more than60,000 farmers have already received money directly into theirbank accounts.

We are determined to keep our promise to thefarmers and are acting on the same lines," Gowda said in atweet.

"Dear @narendramodi, if your index finger is busy questioning us,the other fingers are questioning you about demonetisation, Clean Ganga, inter-linking of rivers, Ram Mandirand other unfulfilled promises.

Please remind yourself abouthow you treated farmers during protests in Delhi," the JD(S)supremo said in another tweet.

Addressing a rally at Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh last week, Modi had said the Congress promised loan waivers to lakhs of farmers, but the JD(S)-Congress coalition in Karnataka did not deliver.

"Lollipops" were handed out. The loan waiver was given to only 800 farmers, Modi had claimed.

Also, taking on the state government over loan waiver scheme, Modi, while addressing party workers of the state via video conference, on Friday had termed it as the "most crueljoke on farmers".

Modi's comments had drawn sharp criticism from Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Congress leader Siddaramaiah.

While Kumaraswamy had accused the Prime Minister of misleading the country for "political gains, Siddaramaiah questioned Modi's "moral right" to criticise the state government's farm loan waiver scheme and called him "anti farmer".

The Kumaraswamy-led state government had announced over Rs 45,000 crore loan waiver scheme in July, soon aftercoming to power.

But it has been bogged down by several issuesrelating to banks.

Melkar (Bantwal): The 9th Annual Day celebration of SMR Public School, titled “EXCELLENTIA”, was held on December 15 with great enthusiasm and dignity, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s journey towards academic excellence and holistic development.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. U. T. Iftikar Ali. The chief guests were Dr. Akhtar Hussain, Mr. P. Moosabba Beary, Mr. Zakaria Jokattre, and Dr. T. M. Abdul Rahuf—whose inspiring addresses motivated the students and appreciated the school’s contributions to education.

Mr. Abdul Nasir, Mr. Ibrahim Gadiyar, Mr. Razak Golthamajal, Mr. Sali Koya, Mr. Arshad Hussain, Mr. Ismail Balanoor, Mr. Feroz Bawa, Mr. Sahul Hameed, Mr. Abubakkar, Mr. Hameed K. Mani, Mr. Abdul Majeed (Principal, Melkar Women’s College), and Mr. Abdul Lathief (Former Principal, Melkar Women’s College) were the guests of honour.

The Annual Report was presented by the Headmistress, Ms. Fathimathul Zaheera, highlighting the school’s achievements and progress during the academic year. The Presidential Address was delivered by the Chairman of SMR Public School, Dr. Haji S. M. Rasheed, who emphasised the vital role of education in shaping students’ futures and stressed the importance of discipline, dedication, and consistent effort in achieving 100 per cent academic results.

Secretary of SMR Public School, Mr. Rifath Ahmed, and PTA President, Mr. Sandeep Kumar, were also present on the occasion.

The Annual Day celebration showcased the collective efforts of students and teachers and reaffirmed the school’s commitment to quality education and all-round development.
