Mangaluru, Nov 5: Former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda has decided to strengthen his party in coastal district of Dakshina Kannada, which is considered the weakest link in the party's chain.

Addressing media persons at the circuit house in the city on Wednesday, the veteran leader said that he was on a party revival mission as elections are still 42 months away.

“I will tour all 224 assembly segments in the state. I will meet sincere JD(S) party workers and leaders who are remaining on the side-lines or have been ignored. I will visit them personally and see that the party will rise to its old glory,'' he said stressing that he would start his mission revival from Dakshina Kannada.

“Starting from Mangaluru today, I will tour all Assembly constituencies in the State to strengthen the party,” he said.

Asked if he would reach out those who left the party for various reasons in recent years, Mr Gowda said that he never commented about persons who left the party. “I don't expect the persons who left the party for power to come back since we don't have power,'' he said.

Mr. Gowda reiterated that the president of the State unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) would be selected within two weeks. The district and taluk units of the party would be restructured. Preference would be given to women in selecting office bearers of different units, as had been stated before.

Later, Mr. Gowda visited Mangaluru Press Club where he spent some time with media persons and said that media had a greater role to play in upholding principles of democracy. Mr. Gowda also addressed party workers in the city.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
