Bengaluru, Dec 23: Police arrested six youths, including three minors, in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old student near Water Tank Park close to PES?College in Hanumanthanagar on Tuesday afternoon. Three other suspects are absconding.
The arrested are Yashwant, 19, Srinivas V, 19, both residents of Srinagar and Suman, 19, a resident of Anchepalya and three minors. Shekar alias Motte, Manjunath and Mahesh are absconding.
Shekar had sold his mobile phone to one Amar (name changed). On December 19, Shekar approached Amar and asked him to return his phone and that he would give back his money.
But Amar refused and said that he had taken an advance amount for selling the phone, from Lohith (name changed), a friend of Harsha, the victim.
Shekar and his friends went in search of Lohith to his house in Sanjaynagar near Byatarayanapura and picked a fight with him. Harsha and his friends, who got to know of this, came there and thrashed Shekar and his friend, police said.
A humiliated Shekar and eight of his friends found Harsha near the Water Tank Park on Tuesday afternoon. They assaulted Harsha and his friend with a cricket bat and wooden logs. Yashwant stabbed Harsha in the back with a knife. As people started gathering, Shekar and his friends fled on their bikes, police said.
Harsha's friend's saw blood oozing from his back. They took him to a private clinic in Hanumanthanagar and told the doctor that he had met with an accident. They said Harsha fell on a barricade and the iron rod pierced his back. They were asked to go to a hospital as the cut was deep, said a senior police officer.
“Harsha's parents were informed about the incident and they shifted him to KIMS Hospital, from where they were directed to Jayadeva Hospital. The doctors at Jayadeva found out that it was a stab injury and informed the Tilak Nagar police, who alerted the Hanumanthanagar police,” the officer said.
“By the time the police could record Harsha's statement, he succumbed to injuries. Based on the information provided by Harsha's friend, the police zeroed in on the suspects by analysing their phone call records,” he said. Harsha, a diploma (mechanical) student, knew Shekar as they played cricket together.
