Mangaluru, Nov 7: Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that with the opening of 4,39,733 bank accounts, all households in Dakshina Kannada district had been covered by financial inclusion under the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) and there had been no objection received from any household left out from the scheme.

Briefing mediapersons at a press conference here on Friday, he said that as per the guidelines of Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance, banks were required to cover every household with a minimum of one bank account by January 26, 2015.
With the intention of covering all households by November 1, 2014, a survey had been conducted to ensure financial inclusion of all households before declaring the district as fully covered. A total of 1.64 lakh new BSBD accounts have been opened from August 18 till date under the scheme with the participation of 25 banks including nationalized and private banks, he said.
Doubly assuring that all families had been covered under the financial inclusion scheme, he said that the district administration would submit a report to the state-level implementation committee of PMJDY to confirm the coverage of households by the banks. The state-level committee can then take action on declaration of the district as fully covered under the scheme, said Mr Ibrahim.
To announce the district as fully covered under PMJDY, the district administration has urged the banks to invite left-out households to open bank accounts within a specific time frame. The deputy commissioner urged the people to contact the nearest bank to facilitate them with a new account if they were not provided with one.
After the verification from the state-level implementation committee, the district will be declared as 100 percent financially-covered district, said Mr Ibrahim. DK Zilla Panchayat CEO Tulasi Maddineni and convenors of various banks were present.
