DK police arrest two absconding accused while returning from Gulf

Mangaluru Dec 1: Two youths from Dakshina Kannada who had jumped the bail in connection with a five year old assault case and flown abroad were arrested by the police soon after the retuned to India.

The arrested have been identified as Sharief PM (25) of Ajjavara village in Sullia and Muneer BM (26) of Bantrabail village.

Superintendent of Police Sharanappa SD told media persons here that one was arrested on November 5 at the Kochi International Airport and the other was held in Kozhikode Airport on Monday.

The two were among 11 persons arrested in connection with the assault on Shafi and K.H. Nausheer in April 2010.

After filing of the charge sheet, Sharief and Muneer obtained a bail. Then they failed to appear before the jurisdictional magistrate court. Both left for gulf without informing the police.

After seeking permission of the court, the police had issued look-out notices against the two as there was information that they had gone abroad.

The SP that the Sullia police had passed on the information to all airports in the country. The police arrested Sharief soon after he landed at the Kochi International Airport on October 5. A team of Sullia police had proceeded to Kozhikode to take Muneer into custody.

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
