Mangalore, Jul 12: The Department of Community Medicine, Yenepoya University organized an interactive session between students from Maastricht University, The Netherlands and the MBBS Students currently posted in Community Medicine. The event was organized under the banner of Yenepoya University Alumini Association.
The two students who came to interact with the students were Ms Evelien Beelen and Ms Kelly Dreuning from Maastricht.
The students shared the way medical education takes place at the Netherlands. They highlighted the Seven Jump theory which has evolved as a Maastricht Model.
Students at Yenepoya University also raised several issues to the Dutch students regarding their take on euthanasia, research and public health measures. The Dutch students highlighted how cancer was an emerging discipline which is eating lives in Holland and also how Senior citizen homes and hospices are increasing like never before.
Dr Kirthinath Ballal, Asst Professor, Manipal University accompanied the Dutch students and also spoke on some Public health issues.
Dr Shailesh Shenoy, President, Yenepoya Alumini Association and Dr Hasan Sarfaraz, Secretary Yenepoya University Alumini Association were among present.
Dr Edmond Fernandes, Post Graduate, Dept of Community Medicine, Yenepoya University Co-ordinated the events for the day. Dr Sandhya Rani, PG, Community medicine, Yenepoya University structured the program.
The Dutch students later met the Registrar and the Vice Chancellor of Yenepoya University to deliberate and share their India experience and also to explore potential collaborative options.
