Mangalore, Jul 17: Members of the district units of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Student Federation of India (SFI) held a protest in front of the deputy commissioner's office on Thursday, demanding an end to the genocide of innocent civilians in Gaza Strip by Israeli missiles and urging Modi government to intervene in the Israel-Gaza conflict.

Addressing the protestors, state president of DYFI Muneer Katipalla said that hundreds of innocent civilians had been killed because of the continuous air raids by Israeli army on Gaza which cannot be justified.

Israel has been launching missile attacks on the people and the inhuman massacre of innocent women and children should be condemned. Even with such killing by the imperialist regime in Israel, the US does not condemn this genocide. This indicates a major conspiracy behind the silence of the US in the face of such inhuman killings, he said.

He said that Israel had occupied most of Palestinian land and was continuing its oppression and offensive on the inhabitants of Gaza since several years. The incessant targeting and killing of civilians in Gaza by Israeli government should come to an end, he said, demanding India government to intervene in the situation and mount pressure on its Israeli counterpart to stop its offensive.

He warned of intense protests across the state if the air strikes in Gaza failed to cease.

SFI leader Nithin Kuthar and DYFI leaders B K Imthiyaz, Yogish Jeppinamogaru, Madhuri Bolar and others were present.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
