As the opposition parties have planned to attack the government in the ongoing Legislature Session on Monday, in connection with the suicide cases of M.K. Ganapati and Kallappa Handibag, the CM had reportedly sought updates on both the cases. Accordingly, the CID top brass briefed the CM and Home Ministers the details related to both the cases.

It is learnt that the CM was briefed about the family problems and depression faced by Ganapati to tackle the questions that would be asked by the opposition parties.

Brother's clarification

Meanwhile, Ganapathi's brother Thammaiah, who is the DySP of Ramanagaram, said that Ganapathi depressed for the past three years and was getting treatment for the same for two years.

“He was on anti-depressants and many of my batchmates, who had spoken to Ganapathi had hinted at him having become sensitive,” he said.

Mr. Thammaiah also said that there are officials facing far more grave charges, but Ganapathi was sensitive and had taken it very seriously despite being absolved of all charges.

He also stated that Ganapathi's statement on camera was an emotional outburst, due to stress. He denied allegations that he was under duress from the higher authorities. “Let the probe begin and the truth will come out,” he said.

However, Ganapathi's wife Pavana has stood by her husband's version to the TV channel and has stated (on the day of the incident) that he used to broach the subject of harassment from his superiors and politicians at home.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
