Eid Milad: Muslims take out colourful rallies; Hindus distribute ice-cream!

Mangaluru, Dec 24: Peaceful rallies, prayers and call for peace and harmony marked the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi celebration in coastal Karnataka.

Madrasa students and elders from Muslim community took out processions in Mangaluru, Ullal, Udupi and other parts to celebrate the joy of the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), the final messenger of Allah.

Dakshina Kannada Khazi Twaka Ahmed Musliyar inaugurated a procession at Zeenat Baksh mosque which culminated in Edgah mosque at Light House Hill.

Speaking on the occasion, Khazi called upon the Muslims to follow the lifestyle of the Prophet and develop good relationship with people of other faiths.

This is time to show the world that Islam is peace and that the message of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is aimed at peace in this world and hereafter.

A similar rally was held in Dargah town of Ullal, one of the pilgrimage centres of coastal Karnataka. Over 10,000 devotees from 33 mosques that fall under the jurisdiction of Ullal Dargah including Konaje, Mudipu, Boliyar, Kuthar, Eliyarpadavu, Madaninagara, Gramachavadi, Pavoor and Inoli mosques took part in the procession.

The procession which started at Kotepura Juma Masjid passed through main streets of Ullal town, Mukkacheri Azad Nagar, Melangadi and culminated in the premises of Sayyad Madani Dargah wherein special prayers were held.

US Hamza, president, Dargah committee, inaugurated the jubilee by hoisting the flag. Khatib Abdul Rauf Musliyar led the Dargah ziarath and dua.

Hindus distribute ice-cream

Processions were held in other parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts too. No untoward incident has been reported. In Uchila town of Udupi district a group of Hindus distributed ice-cream among Muslims who took out a Milad procession.

Kishor Shetty, Ganesh Achary, Jagjeevan and Nagraj Bhat, all members of Uchila friends, where among those who distributed to ice-cream to Muslims to spread the message of harmony.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru CEN police have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly posting provocative and misleading content on an Instagram page named “mr_a_titude”, targeting the Bajpe police.

Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy C H identified the arrested as Abhishek M, a resident of Katipalla in Mangaluru.

A case has been registered at the Bajpe Police Station under Sections 353(1)(c), 353(2), 56, and 57 read with Section 189 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the post.

According to police, the accused uploaded a photograph of a hotel on the Instagram page and alleged that accused persons in a murder case under the Bajpe police jurisdiction were being given “royal treatment” by the police, including being served beef meals daily from the hotel.

The post further accused the police of supporting criminals, misusing their authority, and betraying public trust. Police said the content was provocative in nature and aimed at inciting public outrage against the police.

Following the post, a case was registered at the Bajpe police station, and further investigation was transferred to the CEN police station.

Police records indicate that the accused has a criminal history, with multiple cases registered against him, including murder, attempt to murder, assault, and robbery at the Surathkal Police Station, and one case at the Kaup Police Station.

The Commissioner said the accused was traced and arrested using technical evidence.

Melkar, Dec 17: The 17th Annual Day and Graduation Ceremony of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, themed “Fusion-2K25,” was celebrated with dignity and enthusiasm, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic journey. The programme reflected the college’s steadfast commitment to academic excellence, character building, and the holistic development of students.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Asif Mohammed, whose presence greatly enriched the occasion. The celebration was further graced by the chief guests Mr. P. B. Ahmed Mudassir and Mr. Nissar Fakeer Mohammed, along with the distinguished guests of honour Mr. B. A. Nazeer and Mr. Ibrahim Gadiyar.
