Kasaragod, Feb 3: Mechanical engineering students of the Vimal Jyothi College of Engineering at Chemperi have designed and manufactured a Formula-3 model racing car of international standards.

Last week, the team participated in the JK Tyre Formula Design Challenge held at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore to exhibit the prototype racing car designed and made by them.
“Ours was one of the two engineering colleges in the State selected to participate in the event,” Sarath K. Jolly, a mechanical engineering student and member of the team, said. The team took six months for the fabrication and nearly as much time for the designing of the car, he said. Each part of the single-seater car was manufactured by the team members, he said.
The team’s next target is participation in the Supra SAE India event scheduled to be held in Chennai in June-July. The college is the only team to represent the State in the event.
The Mechanical Engineering Department of the college has under it the Society for Automotive Engineering Club to help mechanical engineering students hone their skills in tandem with innovations in automobile technology and the growing automobile industry in the county.
