Udupi, Mar 5: The Udupi district police should take immediate precautionary measures in the light of the Hindu Samajotsav being organized in the city on March 9, said Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike.
The organisers had said that VHP leader Praveen Togadia would be participating. Mr. Togadia was known for vitriolic speeches that had the potential to disturb peace.
He should not be allowed to participate in the function, the KKSV said. The police should not allow his speech to be broadcast either through audio or video, they said.
There was a possibility of mass attacks on people or places of worship belonging to other religions after the Samajotsav concluded, the release said. The police should take all security measures to protect the lives, properties and places of worship of people belonging to other religions. The police should direct the organisers to wind up the Samajotsav by 5 p.m.
Stern action should be taken against those shouting inflammatory slogans, putting up vicious banners and making insulting remarks, the release said.
