Belagavi, Dec 14: In a shocking incident, a retired army man Vithal Indi, 68, turned a licenced revolver on his wife, son and daughter at Nayanagar village, 6km from Bailhongal town on Monday night.

Vithal is at large. Anusuya, who suffered bullet injuries in her abdomen and shoulder, is battling for life in the Intensive Care Unit of the district hospital. Preeti with a bullet lodged in her arm is in the casualty ward at the same hospital. Their relatives have not told them about Eranna's death.
After joining the MEG, Iranna returned home for the first time to spend time with his family. Vithal, who also served in the postal department after retiring from the Army, came home and asked Iranna to give him Rs 50,000 to buy a two-wheeler. When Iranna said he didn't have money, an enraged Vithal shot him. Preeti tried to snatch the revolver but was shot in the arm. Anasuya suffered injuries in the cross-fire. Finally, Vithal shot Iranna in the chest, killing him instantly.
Preeti said that Anasuya was Vithal's second wife. She said, "My father would always scold my brother and me over petty issues because he had a short temper and a drinking problem too. We never asked for a share in his an cestral property. His first wife Mala kubai and son Rajashekhar stayed at Hingani village, Indi taluk of Vijayapura district but we never met Rajashekhar. My father would always neglect my mother."
Bailhongal inspector Sanganagouda said, "On Monday night, Vithal asked for money. Both Anasuya and Iranna refused to give him money as it had been saved for Peeti's wedding expenses. "
