Mangaluru, Nov 21: Dakshina Kannada unit of Bharatiya Janata Party has launched a systematic membership registration drive by opening a separate office for the purpose at Jagannath Joshi Soudha, party head office here on Friday.
Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar formally inaugurated the membership registration office in the presence of Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, former minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, district BJP president Pratap Simha Nayak among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shettar appealed the people of Mangaluru and other parts of coastal Karnataka to contribute greatly to make the BJP's nationwide membership drive launched by party chief Amit Shah successful.
He urged the party workers to further strengthen the hands of Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Stating that the membership drive should be the beginning of the end of Congress rule in the region, former chief minister accused the Karnataka government of failing to take forward people friendly programmes initiated by previous BJP government in the state.
Recalling that BJP had announced formation of 43 taluks including Moodbidri, Kadaba and Brahmavar, he said that Siddaramaiah led government completely ignored this move and cheated the people.
He said that law and order situation in the state has been completely collapsed and the chief minister has lost control over the government.
“The case of crime against women and children has been steadily increasing. On the other hand culprits are freely wandering. People are losing trust on the system,” he lamented.
