Ganapathi suicide: No need of CBI probe, CID will expose the truth soon, says CM

Hubballi, July 9: Clarifying that there was no question of handing over the suicide case of Dy.SP M.K. Ganapathy to the Central Bureau of Investigation, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said here on Saturday that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was capable of bringing out the truth.

Speaking to presspersons at Hubballi airport during a brief stopover on his way to Haveri district, Mr. Siddaramaiah sad that the CID was already investigating and it was capable of cracking the case. “We have faith in CID and I have asked them to speed up the investigation. Truth will be revealed soon”, he said.

To a question regarding the suicides of two Dy.SPs in a row, Mr Siddaramaiah clarified that everything was fine with the Police Department and no police officer or junior was under pressure. The suicide of Kallappa Handibag was for other reasons and the case of Ganapathy had been handed over to the CID immediately. He said the CID would be looking into all angles including his interview to a private news channel and related aspects.

On the Opposition's demand for a CBI probe, Mr Siddaramaiah sought to know how many cases were handed over to CBI while they were in power. “We have handed over five cases. The Opposition used to call it as Chor Bachao Institution' and now suddenly they have developed faith in the investigating agency”, he quipped.

To a query regarding the alleged harassment to police officer G.N. Mohan for registering a case against his (CM) son during the last Assembly election, Mr.Siddaramaiah said that his son was not involved in the case and the police officer had registered a false case against him. “The police officer was suspended for registering false case and there might be other reasons too”, he said.

Mangaluru: Public transport in Mangaluru is set for a state-led transformation as the government moves to deploy 100 new electric govt buses to replace unreliable private services. The initiative aims to provide a dependable alternative to private operators who have been frequently "cutting trips," leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV during a public phone-in session. The move specifically targets routes where private bus service has become erratic, ensuring that citizens no longer have to rely on a fluctuating private sector for their daily commute.

Restoring the Govt Presence

The transport crisis was brought to the forefront by Ramayya, a resident of Bajal, who highlighted a growing trend of private buses skipping morning and night trips. With the previous KSRTC (govt) services discontinued, residents have been left without a fallback option.

To fix this, the DC confirmed that the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme will bring 100 government-owned electric buses to the city:

• Phased Deployment: The first 50 of the new 100 government buses are scheduled to arrive by March 2026.

• State Infrastructure: Two new government depots, including one at Mudipu, are being prepared for operations.

• Recruitment: The state has already begun training a new batch of government bus drivers to ensure the fleet is operational the moment it arrives.
