Bengaluru, May 3: A 17-year-old girl who had passed her II PU examinations this year, committed suicide after her friends apparently misled her about the results in Karnataka’s capital.
The victim has been identified as Sneha Subramanian, a resident of Kuvempunagar in Bengaluru. She completed the PU at the Government PU College for Girls in Malleswaram 13th Cross.
Sneha resorted to the extreme step on Monday afternoon after the PU results were declared. She had gone with a few of her friends to check her marks online. She then came back home dejected and hanged herself from the ceiling fan when there was no one at home, the police said.
The incident came to light around 4 pm when her younger brother Arjun who had gone out, came back home and saw his sister hanging from the fan. He immediately sought the help of others and brought her down and rushed her to the hospital, where she was declared brought dead, the police said.
Sneha’s parents suspect she could have taken the extreme step after she thought she failed in Economics as there was an ‘X’ mark next to her 30 marks secured in the subject. While actually, going by the marks card, she has passed in all subjects and the ‘X’ against Economics indicated “exempted”.
Upon preliminary investigation, the police learnt that as soon as the PU results were out, Sneha was also misled by a few of her friends or classmates from her college who informed her that she had failed in her examination.
The Gangammanagudi police have taken up a case under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) section 174 death under suspicious circumstances — and are investigating.
