Udupi, Feb 24: Some ignorant people are criticizing Bhagavad Gita without understanding it, said Vishwesha Tirtha Swami, the chief pontiff of Pejawar Mutt.

“The Chatur Varnashrama system mentioned by Krishna in the Gita was in no way connected to the present Varna system based on caste. Krishna had made the classification based on a person’s character, karma and nature,” the seer said.
The exponent of the Dwaita philosophy Sri Madhwacharya had stated that the Varna system was based on a person’s character rather than on caste. The Gita had given the message of treating all persons from the Brahmins to Dalits equally. People should do their duty with devotion and selfless attitude.
“Do those criticising the Gita have the courage to speak in the same vein about the Qur'an or the Bible? People should protest against such persons in a non-violent manner,” the seer said.
