Mangaluru, Nov 25: Veteran Congress leader and former union minister B Janardhana Poojary has exhorted the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfill the responsibilities of a husband and give justice to the latter's wife.

Addressing media persons in the city on Tuesday the outspoken politician, who had earlier strongly condemned Mr Modi for not revealing marital status while filing affidavit for Gujarat Assembly elections, said that Mr Modi should call his wife back home.

Mr Poojary's bold remarks came a day after Mr Modi's wife Jashodaben filed an RTI application to seek clarity on security cover given to her at present and wanted to know what she is entitled to.

In her application, Ms Jashodaben sought several documents from the police department related to her security cover given as per the protocol, including the certified copy of actual order passed by government about providing security. She also wanted to know the laws and related provisions in Indian Constitution about security cover given to a PM's wife.

Urging the Prime Minister to understand the situation of Ms Jashodaben, Mr Poojary said that it is the responsibility of a husband to take care of his wife. “She may not be as beautiful and attractive as Mr Modi would like her to be. But she is his lawful wife,” Mr Poojary said.

Stating that Mr Modi became prime minister of India because of the prayers of his wife, Mr Poojary said that now it is time for the PM to correct his mistakes and invite his wife home. “If you have even a bit of compassion you must ask your wife to come home,” the veteran leader told the Prime Minister.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
