April 19, 2017

Bengaluru, Apr 19: The state government is studying a proposal to abolish reserve police forces and have a common force on the lines of those in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Congress

“The government is studying a report submitted by DG&IGP Rupak Kumar Dutta to set up a common police force by abolishing reserved forces such as Karnataka State Reserve Police, District Armed Reserve and City Armed Reserve. Karnataka has been following the reserve police force system for the last several decades.

The government will surely abolish the reserved police force system if the move is found to be beneficial,” Home Minister G?Parameshwara told reporters here on Tuesday. He was speaking after chairing a crime review meeting of the six districts of the Central Range (Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, KGF,?Chikkaballapur, Ramanagaram and?Tumakauru.)

He inaugurated the cyber crime police station exclusively for these six districts.

Replying to a question on increasing online frauds in the state, Parameshwara said: “The government has decided to set up one cyber crime police station in every district and sub-division levels. All cyber crime police stations in the state would be integrated and online frauds will come down once more police stations are set up.”

Regarding the notice slapped by the Supreme Court for large number of vacancies in the Police department in the state, Parameshwara said: “Wrong information was given to the Supreme Court. There were 25,000 vacant posts in 2013 and the government has filled up 21,000 posts in the past three years.

The Police department has a sanctioned staff strength of 1.07 lakh, of which 8,000 posts are vacant. The government will shortly issue notification to recruit 8,000 constables and sub-inspectors. The Home department has taken the Finance department’s consent for the recruitments for the next three years.”

‘CID yet to ready Meti case report’

Regarding the CID’s report to the Home department giving a clean chit to former minister H?Y?Meti in a sex scandal, Parameshwara said: “I am not aware of any report submitted by the CID. The government will take suitable action based on the report, once it is submitted.” DGP?(CID) H?C?Kishore Chandra told DH: “The CID?has neither prepared any report nor submitted it to the Home department. The matter is still under investigation.”
