Udupi, Aug 4: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy-led state government and leaders of Congress party have manipulated the reservation for the municipal wards for Udupi City Municipal Council to ensure that strong BJP candidates could not contest the polls, alleged Udupi MLA K Raghupati Bhat.

Mr. Bhat, however, said that the BJP leaders were capable of facing the present reservation of wards. “The Congress was daydreaming about retaining power in the Udupi CMC. The voters would teach it a fitting lesson,” he told media persons.

The administration in Udupi CMC had collapsed. Taxes had been increased during the Congress rule in the CMC and people had to bear the burden of it. The issue of street lamps had remained unresolved. The promises made by the Congress in its manifesto had not been implemented, Mr. Bhat claimed.

Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, president of the district unit of the BJP, said that the BJP would win in all four urban local bodies – Udupi, Kundapur, Karkala and Saligrama – in the local body elections on August 29.

The party would collect the views of the leaders and people in every ward and select the candidates, he said.

Development activities had failed to take off in the State though the Congress-JD(S) government had come to power three months ago. The State Budget presented by Kumaraswamy had only given rise to voices of separation in different parts of the State. The BJP wanted a united Karnataka, Mr. Hegde said.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
