Mangaluru, Feb 11: UT Khader, minister for food and civil supplies, on Saturday said that Karnataka government is contemplating to set aside Rs 50 crore in the forthcoming budget for a proposed agency to redress the grievances of non-resident Kannadigas (NRKs) in India and abroad.

He was responding to a demand by Mohammed Ali Uchil, president of Abu Dhabi based Bearys Welfare Forum at a programme in the city, to take necessary steps for the rehabilitation of those NRKs who lost their jobs in foreign countries for various reasons and returned home empty handed.
Mr Khader said that the committee on Welfare of Backward Classes and Minorities headed by the Congress MLA?J?R?Lobo has already recommended the government to establish an agency on the lines of Department of Non-Resident Keralites Affairs.
The suggestions of the committee also include to set up a job portal providing details of employment opportunities abroad, setting up of a relief fund for rendering immediate assistance to NRKs in need etc.
