Mangaluru, Dec 19: The Gujarat assembly poll result has clearly showed decline of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party’s popularity in his home state, opined Karnataka’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader.

Speaking to media persons in the city, Mr Khader, who had campaigned in the Gujarat for Congress, said that the change of political atmosphere in the nation has started from the PM’s home state.

"The Gujarat election result has proved that it is not possible to fool the people forever by spreading lies through social media. PM Moid, BJP chief Amit Shah and many union ministers held dozens of rallies in Gujarat. Despite that the BJP could not perform according to their expectations. People have started expressing their displeasure over Modi's rule," Khader said, giving credit for party's good show in Gujarat to newly elected party president Rahul Gandhi.

To a question, the minister said the Gujarat election result will undoubtedly have its influence in favour of Congress in Karnataka assembly elections too. "Congress will come back to power in karnataka with more seats. The Gujarat result is a verdict against the Central government," the minister said.

"This election has also proved that no amount of anti-Rahul campaign on social media will prevent AICC president's success in future. Rahul Gandhi hails from a family that is closely connected with the people," Khader said.
