Hyderabad, Feb 23: Two workers died and 12 others workers were injured in an explosion that occurred while staff there were trying to dispose of chemicals at Gulf Oil Corporation Limited company, which makes detonators, on its premises at Kukatpally in the city on Monday, police said.

Telangana Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy is on his way to the accident spot, the police said. “We’re told the blast occurred when some chemicals, which are of explosive in nature, were being disposed off", the Madhapur ACP Ramana Kumar said.
The injured were shifted to Apollo and Anupama Hospitals at Jubilee Hills and Kukatpally respectively. Condition of some of the injured was critical. Mild tension prevailed at the entrance of the factory gate with families, workers and residents of the surrounding localities gathered seeking information about the incident. Some of them started staging demonstration as the security personnel stopped them from going inside.
Explosions resulting in death of workers were reported in this factory, earlier known as IDL, in the past. Names of the persons admitted in Apollo Hospital are as follows: Surender Reddy, 24, Abdul Saleem, 59, Krishna Swamy, 59, Purushotham, 30, Lakshman, M. Raju, 35, Mallesh, 48, Muthyal Rao, 56, Ramulu, 40, B. Prakash, 25.
