Mangaluru, Jul 18: Officials at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) are bracing to handle the Haj pilgrims who will fly to Saudi Arabia in separate batches.
The first batch of Haj pilgrims from Karnataka will leave from MIA on July 21. A flight carrying 146 pilgrims will leave everyday till July 23. The pilgrims will disembark in the holy city of Madinah.
The airport will handle flights brining pilgrims back to Mangaluru from September 1 to September 3 this year.
The pilgrims from Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Udupi districts of Karnataka will get intimation / information about the flight date at least two weeks / 10 days before the exact date of departure.
The time duration of flight from the embarkation point in Mangaluru to Jeddah is 5 hrs 21 minutes. The time duration of flight from the embarkation point in Mangaluru to Madinah is 5 hrs 22 minutes.
The officials of Karnataka State Haj Committee will distribute Passport with visa and flight tickets to the pilgrims 12-24 hours before the date of departure.
The registration process of Haj pilgrims will start from July 19 at Ansar School, Bajpe near the Airport and will continue for three days.
On July 21, at 10 a.m. Wakf Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan will formally inaugurate the pilgrimage at Ansar School in the presence of Urban Development, Housing Minister U T Khader and former minister Roshan Baig and Airport Director VV Rao.
