Half of Bengaluru’s govt vehicles to be electric by year-end: Minister

Bengaluru, Feb 27: About half the government-run vehicles in the city will be converted to electric by 2019 end, said state minister for large and medium scale industries KJ George here on Tuesday.

“The aim is to replace 50% of petrol and diesel vehicles used by the state government staff in Bengaluru to eco-friendly electric vehicles (EV) by 2019,” he said while speaking at the Future Mobility Show 2019, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

He said urban development department is also amending the building bylaws to mandate 10-20% parking space for EV charging points. “The government is contemplating preferential parking for EVs and adequate signage in the city to guide electric vehicle owners to the nearest e-charging slots,” he said.

“Karnataka was one of the first states in India to realise the potential of electric mobility. Today, the state has emerged as a front runner in the sector, determined to play a vital role in driving EV penetration,” he added.

BHEL unveils e-bus

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a government undertaking has unveiled a prototype of an air-conditioned electric bus. The electric bus, which unveiled at the Future Mobility Show, will have a seating capacity of 43. Once it is fully charged, it will run up to 150km. The maximum speed of the BHEL’s e-bus is 75kmph. It will also have facilities like Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras, LED display board and GPS.

The BHEL entry to electric bus sector will be a boost to electric mobility, which is mostly dominated by the Chinese companies.

Melkar, Dec 17: The 17th Annual Day and Graduation Ceremony of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, themed “Fusion-2K25,” was celebrated with dignity and enthusiasm, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic journey. The programme reflected the college’s steadfast commitment to academic excellence, character building, and the holistic development of students.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Asif Mohammed, whose presence greatly enriched the occasion. The celebration was further graced by the chief guests Mr. P. B. Ahmed Mudassir and Mr. Nissar Fakeer Mohammed, along with the distinguished guests of honour Mr. B. A. Nazeer and Mr. Ibrahim Gadiyar. In their inspiring addresses, the guests encouraged the graduating students and appreciated the dedicated efforts of the management, faculty, and students.

The annual report was presented by the Principal, Mr. Abdul Majeed S, highlighting the institution’s academic progress, notable achievements, and extracurricular accomplishments during the academic year.

The presidential address was delivered by the esteemed Chairman of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, Dr. Haji S. M. The graduation ceremony was a proud moment for the outgoing students as they were formally conferred degrees and wished success in their future endeavours.

Ms. Mashmooma Fathima served as the Master of Ceremonies. The welcome address was delivered by Ms. Fathima Nida, and the programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Ayisha Suhana.
