Ramanagar, Mar 23: The politically crucial Ramnagar on Saturday saw a tearjerker of an election meeting as former chief minister H?D?Kumaraswamy tried to touch the emotional chord by playing the Deve Gowda card.

Invoking the fact that his father, the former prime minister, was fighting his last election at the age of 82, Kumaraswamy tried to make it appear “inevitable” for him to contest the Lok Sabha election from Chikkaballapur seat, even if winning it meant having to vacate the Ramanagar Assembly seat which he now holds.

He said he had vowed to win at least 10 to 12 seats for the JD(S). To fulfill that promise, he has to take some difficult decisions, including contesting the elections and bequeathing his assembly seat.

Saturday 's meeting was touted as a bid to “convince” party workers to allow him to contest from Chikkaballapur.

One of the workers threatened to commit suicide, if he ditched them. At this stage, a teary-eyed Kumaraswamy reminded that he had been “betrayed” when his wife Anitha was defeated in the Assembly elections from the Channapatna seat and subsequently in the by-election to the Bangalore Rural seat.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
