Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 14: Heavy rains continued to lash parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Thursday throwing normal life out of gear in twin districts.
Authorities have declared holiday for schools in Puttur, Belthangady and Sullia taluks of Dakshina Kannada district following overnight rains that raised river levels in the region.
Meanwhile Revenue Minister R V Deshpande along with Urban Development and Housing Minister U T Khader visiting rain affected areas in Dkahsina Kannada.
Visiting the partially damaged houses at Anegundi cross road in Bejai, he disbursed cheques as immediate compensation (amounting to Rs 1,01,900) to each to the families of the victims Bhavani and Anuradha.
Speaking to media persons, Mr Deshpande said that an emergency relief fund of Rs 3 crore each (total Rs 6 crore) has been release for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts from the state government.
Later, the two ministers visited sea erosion spots at, Udaynagar, Someshwar and Ucchila villages on the outskirts of Mangaluru to inspect the sea wall construction work. Local residents demanded a speedy and permanent solution for the decades old problem.
