Mangaluru, Dec 26: With right-wing groups in coastal Karnataka reportedly gearing up to hold a controversial'ghar wapsi' programme, the Dakshina Kannada unit of Akhila Bharata Hindu Mahasabha said that the organisation was in complete support of the conversions and would give a grand launch to reconvert Muslims and Christians bank to Hinduism in the twin districts in the coming days.
Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, state Mahasabha spokesperson Dharmendra K said that around 150 persons had been identified in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts who had been converted from Hinduism in the past, and they would be reverted back to Hinduism in a'homecoming' event.
He said that the reconversion would take place at a mass convention of sadhus and pontiffs which would be held in Dakshina Kannada next year.
On behalf of the organisation, he urged the union government to declare Ganghiji's assassin Nathuram Godse as a national figure and support the organisation's plan to build a temple in the name of Godse. The foundation stone for the temple will be laid on January 30 at a designated place in Uttar Pradesh. With this, the organisation aims to dispel the negative image of Godse and project him as a true nationalist and freedom fighter, he said.
The organisation will also observe January 31 as'Shaurya diwas' in celebration of Godse's death anniversary, he added.
On illegal cow slaughter in the state, he urged the state government to completely ban cow slaughter in the state by bringing an anti-cow-slaughter legislation in Karnataka.
Condemning the introduction of Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill, 2014 which proposes to empower the state government to take over mutts during certain circumstances, Mr Dharmendra urged the government to immediately withdraw the bill.
He also condemned the statements of former union minister B Janardhan Poojary who said that the Akhila Bharata Hindu Mahasabha should be banned.
