Mangaluru, Jan 19: The district unit of Popular Front of India (PFI) has urged for a detailed probe into the communal unrest and rioting that occurred in few sensitive areas in Puttur and Belthangady taluks in the wake of Virat Hindu Hrudaya Sangama organised by Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Friday, alleging that the rioting incidents had been pre-planned.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, PFI district president A M Ataullah alleged that the Hindu Sangama organised at Puttur was prima facie a pre-planned conspiracy by the Sangh Parivar to spark communal riots in the district.
Despite the organisers of the event having given assurances in the peace meeting held in Puttur that no provocative statements would be made in the convention, Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat made offensive statements against the Beary Muslim community as well as insulted other Islamic practices and symbols including Prophet Mohammed. Speeches made by other speakers in the convention also contained inflammatory statements in the context of love jihad, land jihad, conversion and cow slaughter. The youth attending the convention were openly encouraged to carry knives with them, indirectly instigating them against people belonging to the minority community, he said.
He alleged that those who attended the convention were instigated to carry out acts of rioting and the convention was a pre-planned strategy to spark communal unrest in the district by instigating the right-wing activists.
Urging swift action in nabbing the culprits, Mr Ataullah said that torching the stores of traders belonging to the Hindu community was also a part of the conspiracy to create tension between the communities.
He urged that the police department and district administration should register a case and take prompt action against the organisers of the event.
He also urged proper compensation for the owners of stores torched by miscreants in order to spark further unrest between communities. However, innocents should not jailed in an effort to nab the miscreants, he stressed.
PFI Puttur taluk president Shafi Bellare, Belthangady taluk president Haider Nirsal and Bantwal taluk president Iqbal Nandarbettu were present in the press conference.
