Bengaluru, Jul 4: A student of a degree college committed suicide within a few minutes after being slapped by her fiancé during his birthday party at latter's brother-in-law in Kadugodi. Unable to see his girlfriend hanging from the ceiling, the birthday boy too attempted suicide by consuming poison.

The boy, Saidra, a resident of HAL, is said to be out of danger and is under treatment at a private hospital.

Sunanda(20), a BA student of Government College in KR Puram and a resident of Sadaramangala, had gone to Saidra's brother-in-law's house in Kodigehalli, near Kadugodi, to celebrate his 26th birthday.

The duo had met in a Kodigehal li church two years ago and their friendship soon turned into love. Elders on both sides had agreed to their marriage and Saidra was in search of a job.

According to police, at the party, the couple had a quarrel over Saidra drinking with his friends. Sunanda is believed to have thrown the bottle from Saidra's hand, following which he allegedly slapped and abused her.

"Sunanda called her father and told him about all that happened at the party. Meanwhile, Saidra went out of the house with his friends," police said.

Around 5pm, Saidra's sister Shaila, who had stepped out to bring her children from school, found Sunanda hanging from the ceiling of a room in the house. She immediately called her brother and husband and alerted them about the incident.

When Saidra came home and saw his fiancee's body hanging, he ran out the house and consumed poison. A few passersby found him frothing on the roadside and rushed him to hospital.

Police will soon question Saidra. "My daughter told me that Saidra hit her and abused her in front of his friends. They loved each other. I don't know why he did this," police quoted Sunanda's father as saying.
