Koppal, Feb 7: Two motorbikes and the official car of Superintendent of Police were damaged after two groups resorted to stone pelting during a procession organised as part of Hindu convention here on Friday.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad had organised Hindu Samavesha in the town and a ‘shobha yatra’ was taken out as part of the event. Trouble started when the procession was wading through Paltan Street. The incident is said to be an offshoot of the communal clash on Wednesday (February 4).
Three persons including a policeman were injured in a group clash over hoisting a flag on February 4. A police jeep and two bikes were damaged in the incident. A group of youth attempted to hoist saffron flag near a place of worship and the people of another community opposed it. A verbal duel ensued which turned into a scuffle. Rumors added fuel to the fire and the two groups resorted to stone throwing.
On Friday, the youth, who were involved in the Wednesday’s clash were in the procession. The members of the other group tried to assault them, leading to violence, eyewitnesses said.
Two bikes, the windowpanes of a house and the windshield of the SP’s car were damaged in the stone throwing, police said. Police resorted to mild lathi charge to disperse the mob.
