Bangalore, Mar 23: Several like-minded oganisations including Justice for Ma 'adani Forum, Alliance for Protection of Human Rights and Justice conducted a Human Rights Conference as part of Save democracy campaign demanding release of Ma 'adani and his associates.
Human rights activist and academician Prof S A R Geelani delivering his keynote address said that “Ma 'adani 's efforts to empower the downtrodden society has made some people afraid leading to fabricate charges against him. In the normal course of law, bail is a norm and jail is not a norm. But in Ma 'adani 's case it turned out to be just the opposite”.
He said the documents indicate that Ma 'adani was on Hajj pilgrimage during Bangalore blast.
“We want justice for innocent people. The state is biased against minorities and Dalits, and many organizations have brought to public notice wrongful arrests. We will discuss this issue at the conference. Ma 'adani is kept in prison for four years on baseless charges. His health is not good and no treatment is given. Recently, the Supreme Court directed the lower courts to dispose of cases pertaining to political leaders within one year. On humanitarian grounds, Ma 'adani 's case should be disposed of at the earliest,” member of the People 's Democratic Front, Nagari Ramesh who presided over the functiion, said.
Accusing jail authorities of not providing Ma 'adani with proper health facilities, APHRJ 's Rizvan Bappanad said the PDP leader was in urgent need of expert medical attention. Ma 'adani was denied bail through filing of false documents in court, he alleged. Bappanad accused a prison doctor of misleading court by certifying Ma 'adani was in sound health '.
The meeting was concluded with the demand for justice to Abdul Nasser Ma 'adani, a human rights activist, religious scholar and political figure who had been falsely implicated in a case and lodged in Parappana Agrahara prison, Bangalore, as well as for other innocent under-trail prisoners.
