Humiliated by theft accusation, college girl attempts suicide, dies in hospital

Mangalore, Mar 30: Family of a 19-year-old girl in Kasargod is shell-shocked following her death in hospital two weeks after attempting suicide.

Shamseena, daughter of Zakir, a resident of Uduma Pakyar in Kasargod breathed her last at a hospital in Mangalore on Friday. Humiliated by the allegation of theft, she had attempted suicide on March 19.

The girl was a pursuing her second year degree at a private college in Palakkunnu.

Two weeks ago, one the class mates of Shamseena had lost mobile phone. Allegations of theft were leveled against Shamseena by her class mates.

It is learnt that the girl resorted to extreme step after her classmate called her a thief on Facebook page. However, soon after she hanged herself, family members rescued her and rushed her to a private hospital in Kanhangad. Later she was shifted to a hospital in Mangalore.

Shamseena lost her battle for life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital on Friday night. The body was later handed over to the family members for final rites.

A case has been registered at jurisdictional Bekal police station and investigations are on.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.

The police have appealed to the public to cooperate by following traffic rules and parking guidelines to avoid inconvenience during the festival.
