Bengaluru, Mar 25: Adding to the confusion among the already anxious students, the chemistry examination, which was cancelled after the paper leaked on Monday, has been rescheduled for March 31.

Bowing to the demand of students writing language examination paper, including Kannada, the Department of Pre-University Education announced the fresh schedule on Thursday, instead of March 29 as announced earlier.
While several students complained about the new date coming closer to joint entrance examination (JEE) Main for admission to IITs, NITs and other Centrally funded technical institutes to be held on April 3, the decision brought some relief to those writing Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, and Arabic language papers on March 28. Though the department had scheduled the examination for March 29 to allow students to have adequate time for JEE, the schedule affected students writing language papers with barely any time to prepare for the chemistry re-examination.
The department, which had rejected the demand from scores of students and parents for the postponement of the examination, came under intense pressure from the legislators on Thursday, who, cutting across party lines, asked the Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar to change the dates. The department finally relented by afternoon, following a meeting of legislators convened by the Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council Marithibbe Gowda, which was attended by the Minister and officials.
Social media
Meanwhile, the CID probe has now revealed that the social media, including WhatsApp, Facebook, and mails were used extensively to share the image of the handwritten question paper on Sunday midnight. Thirty-six out of 37 questions in the image matched with the question paper issued by the department to 1.74 lakh students on Monday.
